"Reconstructing Natalie" is about a 20-something young woman who learns she has breast cancer. As she undergoes treatment, more than her breasts are reconstructed. She comes out of surgery, chemo and reconstruction with a new perspective on life.
It's a wonderful book. I laughed. I cried. I laughed some more and cried even harder.
I also thought about last year's RWA conference. When you fill a hotel with 2,000 women ranging in ages from 20-something to much older, you can't help but wonder how many have dealt with breast cancer. How many of us have gone through the scare of a lump or a questionable mammogram? I'd guess the majority. Reconstructing Natalie puts flesh and blood on the experience.
The book is also a reminder to be proactive. God gave us beautiful bodies. Let's take care of them . . .
